A landmark residence at 2a Appian Way has broken the Burwood record.
A Burwood estate with six bedrooms and 3269sqm of land has broken the long-time suburb record by $100,000 in a post auction deal.
Known as “Verona”, the historic residence on Appian Way attracted six registered bidders and was auctioned off in front of 300 people.
Despite healthy bidding, the property passed in at $6.3 million before it sold an hour later for $6.6 million after tense negotiations.

The price set a new benchmark for Burwood — surpassing the previous $6.5 million record set in 2015 by 4 Woodside Ave.
Richard Matthews Real Estate’s Matthew Everingham confirmed the buyer was a family of six who were planing to restore the home to “its former glory”.
“While this home is an absolute landmark masterpiece, it has been tightly held since the 1980s and could use a refresh,” he said.
“It was an honour to represent a home of such grandeur that is a piece of local history, one we are hoping to repeat in the not too distance future”.
Built in 1907, Verona has six bedrooms, three bathrooms and multiple indoor and outdoor leisure spaces including a double attic with a home library.
The family of six now plan to restore the home.

It is located on the only state heritage street in Burwood, which is known for having some of the best preserved grand Federation homes in the country. This heritage protection means the house cannot be torn down and renovations can require council approval.
The result came on a strong auction weekend for the Sydney market with 78.5 per cent of all homes selling. While the number of auctions was down due to the Queen’s Birthday holiday, the northern beaches was the top region with a clearance rate of 88.9 per cent.
The inner west had 67 auctions with a 77.4 per cent clearance rate record, according to CoreLogic.
